#5509A - K ages 5-6;

#5509B Grades 1-5 Beginners;

#5509C Grades 1-5 Advanced;

Please read carefully before registering.
In order to make it a safe and enjoyable experience for all wrestlers, please have your wrestler(s) dressed in shorts or sweatpants and a t-shirt. No jewelry should be worn during practice. There is no equipment necessary for practice. Wrestling singlets will be available for checkout for use in tournament competition. Parents are welcome to assist the staff. Registration fee includes a free t-shirt and free entry into the Brainerd Youth Wrestling Tournament on Sunday, Feb 2 at Forestview Middle School. There will be a parent meeting on Tuesday, December 3, and again on Monday, January 6, at Forestview during practice, corresponding with the first sessions for the different groups. Please feel free to attend either or both meetings regardless of the group for which you register. The groups are based on skill level. At each practice the wrestling coaches will be evaluating the wrestler s skills and attention levels. At the end of any practice, a wrestler may be invited to move up to the next level if the coaching staff agrees the wrestler has met the required skills.
Class # 5509A Kindergarten Ages 5 & 6: Basic wrestling skills will be taught in a fun environment. Wrestlers will do a variety of tumbling and games to help master basic body control needed for wrestling while having fun. NOTE: *will meet on Tue, Jan 21 due to inservice day on Mon, Jan 20.



Class # 5509B Grades 1-5 Beginners: Entry level wrestling class will introduce basic skills, stance motion, and positioning. Techniques such as penetration step, single leg and double leg takedown, headlock and headlock defense, sprawl defense, half nelson, sit-out, and standup. Entry level tumbling skills for basic body control will be taught along with games and drills to prepare for advanced wrestling. NOTE: no class on Jan 20 due to inservice day.

Class # 5509C Grades 1-5 Advanced: Participants must have mastered the beginner level and receive a congratulations and approval slip from coaching staff to participate. Wrestlers will be introduced to advanced stance and motion drills, advanced control ties and setups. Single leg, double leg, hi c, low single, front headlock takedown, advanced defensive techniques from sprawl position. Granby roll, switch, stand-up (from the bottom position), half nelson, arm bar, cross face cradle, inside cradle (from the top position). Intermediate tumbling for body control will be taught along with games and drills. NOTE: Class starts on Tuesday, Dec 3, there is no class Monday, Jan. 20 and Feb. 17, no school. Some sessions later in the season may be moved to Brainerd High School South Campus wrestling room. Parents will be notified in advance of changes.
